The Legal Practice Management Association was formed to help those people who are responsible for developing and promoting legal practices such as Barristers Chambers and Solicitors Firms. There are two types of membership:

Membership of the LPMA is open to those individuals who work exclusively, in an employed or freelance capacity, for a set of chambers or a solicitors’ firm and whose primary responsibilities are the management, development and/or marketing of the practice. Members can be engaged with the organisation on a full-time or part-time basis but those operating on a freelance/consultancy basis must be engaged exclusively by one set or firm on a contract of at least six months duration. LPMA membership will not be appropriate to: · Solicitors or barristers who have a practice management role unless they spend at least 60% of their time in this role · Freelance contractors or consultants who are not engaged exclusively by a set of chambers or firm for at least six months at a time · Clerking or administrative staff who do not have responsibilities in two of the areas listed below.
Criteria
Members are expected to be part of, or report directly to, the Management Team in the organisation and have lead responsibility in one or more of the following areas:
- Line management
- Human Resources
- Financial Management and Business Development
- PR and Marketing
- Strategic Planning
- Clerking and Practice Development
- Information Technology
Current annual fee: £50 (includes free attendance at standard business events)
Open to individuals with an interest in legal practice management.
Current annual fee: £30 (plus £15 attendance fee at all standard business events)
